Description:
Rickey is a handsome Brittany with a lot of love to give his people. He enjoys belly rubs. He does not enjoy cats or small dogs. He is agile so a tall fence is needed. He knows sit and down. He is awaiting transport out of Nebraska to his permanent foster home out west. Rescue dollars are stretched thin so we are still hoping to save money and find him a perfect home right here in the Heartland. UPDATE: Rickey is now fostered in Spokane Valley, WA.

Update 12/11/08: Due to a lack of foster homes, Rickey has now been transported to Washington State. Special thanks to Nancy and Harlan for all their hard work getting Rickey transported to us here in WA state. We will update you with more information about him when we have had a chance to get to know him.

Update 12/14/2008: Rickey is settling in just fine in his new foster home. Since arriving in Spokane Valley, we have learned some things about Rickey. His previous owners purchased him as a puppy from a breeder. He lived with them until he was 6 years old. Then they had to move and could not take him so they surrendered him to the local Humane Society in Nebraska. He sat in the shelter for three months due to lack of foster space and was passed up for adoption because when people would approach his kennel, instead of sitting quietly he would jump up and down and bark as if to say "pet me, love me, take me home". He is a bit of an escape artist but does come back when called. He would need a good fence or supervision while outside. Although he is an "alpha", he is currently residing with another male dog who is submissive. He does demonstrate some dominating behavior but it is few and far between and he does stop when told to do so. He does seem to get jealous when one K-9 is getting attention and he is not but I expect that is to be expected since he went three months with only limited human contact. Rickey loves to flush birds, chase rabbits, and run around the yard. He is a happy guy and is enjoying the freedom that comes with being in a foster home. He is potty trained and NOT destructive when left alone. He loves Nylabones and the more attention you can give him the better. Rickey received some training in the shelter. He is solid on sit, down, and come but needs some work on stay. He rides really well in the car and on airplanes. Rickey is ok on a leash. He does not like cats. He needs to meet other dogs with supervision but once used to them he is great. He loves to explore: the house, the yard, the car etc. All around he is a great boy. An ideal home for him would be one without cats but a dog buddy would be ok (even better if it was not a small dog) as long as introductions were done properly. If you are interested in Rickey, please fill out an adoption application.

History: Rickey came from a Nebraska shelter.
