Description:
Pick Me, Pick Me! Hi, my name is Sam! I desperately want my own forever home! My temporary mom really loves me & says it will be hard to let me go because I am such a sweet & lovable guy. She already has four 4-legged babies! I know she is a good Mom for now because when she rescued me & there were no more foster Mom’s she volunteered to keep me so I would be safe. I have been getting along with my temporary sisters & brothers! Let me tell you this is a diverse group – everything from a Great Dane to a Yorkie-Poo-Pom! I get along great with all of them. I also get along great with my temp Mom’s 7 & 11 year old grandkids! I love kids! They actually were giving me treats!

I am starting to get some basic training such as learning the Christmas tree is not a real tree! Oops! How was I supposed to know? My Mom is real good about telling me no & directing me to go outside! I am a little scared if you use a loud voice. I do learn quickly as I want to please. I must have a high doggie IQ! I love to have my ears rubbed! Oh, who am I kidding! Rub me all over, I love it! I am a little starved for attention as my old owner threw me out in the backyard. I now have plenty of food & water. I admit to getting lazy & laying next to the bowl while eating. Ahhhh….this is the life! When Mom leaves or goes to bed, I get to go into a kennel. It scared me at first, but she knew to reward me with a snack & I am there! I need a fenced yard as I love to get out & run! Now that I have so much food & water I have lots of energy! Will you play with me? I will be forever faithful! I will lie next to you or at your feet like I am while my Mom is typing this for me as I haven’t quite mastered typing yet. So what are you waiting for? Why aren’t you filling out the adoption application?
History: A lady told us about an abandoned lab; it ended up being Sam. His owner moved out of the house & left Sam in the backyard without shelter, food or water in freezing conditions. It had been over a week. While standing at the fence looking at Sam & assessing the situation, the owner showed up to get something he forgot in the house. He told me if I wanted Sam to take him. He gave me Sam’s AKC papers. When asked didn’t he want his dog, he said no that he can’t always remember to feed him. I looked at Sam standing there covered with mud, wet & shaking in freezing weather. You could tell he was saying please take me! Sam was brought home, bathed, ears cleaned, nails clipped & of course offered food & water & a warm comfortable place to rest. You could tell he was grateful as we received so much love from a dog that didn’t even know who we were.
Update 1/23/09:
Bad news! Sam tested positive for heartworm. It was a low antigen so that is good news! He started treatment today. The vet thinks Sam was really dehydrated when I got him & is trying to fill that void! He drinks so much it passes right through him & he gets sick. He has powder to go in his water to give him electrolytes to help the dehydration. It is a temporary thing to help him. He also gave me some Pronin to help see if there is an issue with the bladder.

Sam weighed in at 59.6 pounds! He has put on a few pounds because of his new found love of having food! The vet said his weight is still acceptable. By the end of February, Sam should be ready to be neutered & available for adoption.
